installing Linux Mint 15 “Olivia” Xfce on windows 7 netbook 64 bit

I had a tough time getting the boot to work .

I first downloaded the torrent (got slow internet ) from http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2391

now my netbook does not have a cd or dvd . So the only way to install it was via the usb
So i got the pendrive linux installer

Pen drive linux install the .iso into the usb drive

After installing it in the pen drive . I rebooted the netbook and pressed F2 to change the boot sequence .

The install is confusing. The live cd starts and you are on the linux mint desktop. On the desktop there is cd icon which has to be double clicked to install live mind. Now choose install via the first option (side by side ) did not make the netbook bootable (no grub) and it kept booting back into windows 7.

So i had to reinstall linux mint . this time choose the last option - something else . Then making a / partition /temp partition from the free space . Then it installed . But the boot was still broken.

after a lot of searching i found boot repair

So i again rebooted into the linux mint live cd and then from the terminal ran the boot repair tool

sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair

Then i ran boot repair
