The Internet : The Fall of the wild west and the rise of the STASI

It is a tale of survival, persistence, and the merging of peoples and cultures that gave birth and continuing life

The Stasi perfected the technique of psychological harassment of perceived enemies known as Zersetzung – a term borrowed from chemistry which literally means "corrosion" or "undermining".

I never learnt to program more than the basic ,I was an introvert. The internet in the 1990s allowed me to interact and learn from people all over the world. It alway was a place where people felt they should shout out in frustration and not be persecuted for just letting off steam.

It used to fun to reading internet folk lore from online books

Hafner, Katie; Markoff, John (1991). Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier. New York: Simon & Schuster. ISBN 0-671-68322-5.
Takedown: The Pursuit and Capture of America's Most Wanted Computer Outlaw (with Tsutomu Shimomura) (1995) ISBN 0-7868-6210-6

But in general the internet was just an awesome place where people across time zones could relax and unwind ,let of steam ,collaborate with others on several project .

This all changed in 2000 .
I guess this had to happen and i feel internet monitoring is the ONLY way to keep citizens safe .
BUT this also killed the internet
After the 2013 revelations no one trusts the major internet companies microsoft, google, yahoo, facebook
Earlier some of these companies used to be considered the protectors of the end user (who assumed these guys had the best security guys on earth to protect the end users online) . this bubble was busted recently.

Most companies shut down their chat rooms and messenger services which really used to connect netziens around the world .
msn messenger shut down
yahoo messenger ? but how many use this these days/
yahoo chat rooms shut down .
google talk shut down replaced by ugly public hangout
